Seminar & Partner meeting "Lisbon/EU 2020 Strategy - going local" the 28th/29th January 2010 in Esch-sur-AlzetteThe Lisbon strategy for growth and jobs was launched in 2000 as a response to globalization. The idea was for the EU and its member states to cooperate on reforms in order to generate growth and more and better jobs by investing in people’s skills and innovation by 2010. The seminar “Lisbon / EU 2020 Strategy – Going local” focuses on the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy 2010 in Europe and in Luxembourg. A number of challenges encountered during this first period will be discussed in depth, such as the lack of a territorial dimension and the lack of engagement from the local level. Representatives from the regional and the municipal levels from Sörmland (Sweden) will present a method with which they succeeded in getting the local and regional authorities to take ownership of the Lisbon targets as well as to improve their governance systems and their communication with the region’s citizens.
